 history of artist

Mario Rusich was born in what is now the town of Labin, Croatia. He grew up in Trieste, Italy,  from 1945 to 1956 .

He was educated in the classical tradition of studying latin, algebra, geometry, and watercoloring, in the sixth grade, as was the educational practice at that time.

For entertainment he would copy, draw and watercolor comic book characters. At the age of thirteen his family emmigrated to the United States. His interests always involved drawing, graphics, and he enjoyed art classes.

After a few years in the business world working as a graphic designer, and  as a chartist, he went back to college, and received his professional, five year degree, as a Bachelor of Architecture, from Pratt Institute.

He worked as an Architectural Designer, while painting on his own, and taking classes after work at the Arts Student League.

Beginning in 1983, he decided to take classes as a full time student at the League, where he studied painting and sculpture  for two years with, Richard Lofell, Joseph Stapleton, Bruce Dorfman and Leo Manso.
